Identity-bound payments. Verify the person, not just the card.
VerifiNow Payments is a payment gateway with identity verification inside the authorization flow. Step up the transactions that carry real risk with a document check, face match, and liveness check, and keep a timestamped identity record with each verified payment.
- Government ID
- US driver's license. AAMVA data validated.
- Face match
- Live face matches the ID photo.
- Liveness
- Live person present.
- Location
- GPS 34.1478° N, 118.1445° W, Pasadena, CA
- Bound to
- Payment authorization, order 55120, $2,480.00
- Recorded
- Sep 21, 2026, 10:42:18 AM PT
The gateway knows the card. It doesn't know the person.
Disputes you can't win
When a cardholder says "I didn't make this purchase," a transaction log proves the card was used, not who used it. That's a weak position in a dispute.
Stolen cards, AI-made IDs
Card data is cheap, and generative AI produces convincing fake IDs and faces. Checks that look only at the card, device, or behavior can't tell a real customer from a synthetic one.
Account takeover
Credential stuffing and AI-written phishing hand attackers working logins. A step-up check confirms the account holder is present before a high-risk payment, payout change, or new card on file.
Verify, bind, authorize
Initiate
A customer starts a payment on web, mobile, or in person. Your rules decide whether this payment needs a step-up.
Verify
The customer scans a government ID and takes a live selfie. VerifiNow authenticates the document, including AAMVA data validation for US licenses, matches the face to the ID photo, and checks liveness against photos, video replays, masks, and deepfakes.
Bind
The verification result is bound to this specific payment as a timestamped, tamper-evident record.
Authorize
The payment proceeds with the identity record attached, available to your fraud and dispute teams when they need it.
Step up where the risk is, not on every checkout.
A document scan and selfie adds a step. Use it where a fraud loss or dispute would cost more than the extra step, and let low-risk customers pay as usual. You set the rules.
How this fits with 3-D Secure
3-D Secure lets the card issuer authenticate the cardholder. When a payment is successfully authenticated, liability for fraud chargebacks generally shifts from the merchant to the issuer.4 That's valuable, and it has limits.
Where 3-D Secure stops
- The 3DS liability shift doesn't apply to recurring transactions.4
- The issuer chooses how to authenticate, which may be a password or one-time code.5
- You receive an authentication result, not your own evidence of who was present.

VerifiNow Payments questions
How long does verification take?
Customers finish verifying in under 25 seconds, and results return within 5 seconds of submitting the ID and selfie.
Does every customer have to verify at checkout?
No. You set the step-up rules, for example orders above a threshold, a new account's first purchase, a new card on file, or changed payout details. Low-risk customers pay as usual.
How does this work with 3-D Secure?
Payment card issuers use 3-D Secure to authenticate the cardholder, and when a payment is successfully authenticated, liability for fraud chargebacks generally shifts to the issuer. VerifiNow adds your own record of who was present, including where the 3-D Secure liability shift does not apply, such as recurring transactions.
What is in the identity record for a payment?
The document authentication result, the face match and liveness results, a timestamp, and, if you turn on location capture, the device's GPS location. The record is bound to that specific payment and is tamper-evident, so your fraud and dispute teams can pull it up later.
Is GPS location required?
No. Location capture is a setting you control. You can leave it off, ask for location but let customers continue without it, or require it. For customers in California, sharing location is always optional. When it's on, the customer's device asks their permission before sharing location.
How do we integrate it?
Through a REST API and web and mobile SDKs, with real-time webhook notifications. Deployments can go live in as little as one week.
